Best gaming setup for cinematic story games should be shortlisted around the job it must do. South African buyers should compare fit, performance, compatibility, and upgrade room, warranty path, and upgrade room before treating any pick as best.
Mossel Bay gamers targeting cinematic story titles like Alan Wake 2, Death Stranding 2, and Hellblade 2 need an RTX 4070 Super (12GB VRAM) + Ryzen 7 7700X + 1440p HDR monitor. This delivers 80–100 fps in Alan Wake 2 at 1440p High with DLSS Quality, and 90+ fps in Death Stranding 2. Full setup cost: approximately R35,000–R42,000. Evetech delivers to Mossel Bay on the Garden Route in 3–4 business days.
The visual identity of modern cinematic story games — deep shadows, emissive lighting, volumetric fog — depends on HDR to render correctly. An RTX 4070 Super (12GB VRAM, R14,000) with DLSS Quality enabled runs Alan Wake 2 at 80–100 fps at 1440p High. A 27-inch 1440p HDR IPS panel with DisplayHDR 600+ (R7,500–R10,000) is the display that actually shows these HDR elements. At a tighter budget, the RTX 4060 Ti (R9,500) handles 1080p cinematic gaming at 60–75 fps. The RTX 4080 Super (R21,000) delivers 4K 60+ fps in all current cinematic titles.
A Ryzen 7 7700X (R6,500) on a B650 board with 32GB DDR5 (R2,500) and a 2TB NVMe (~R2,800) completes the system. Mossel Bay has fibre coverage through Vumatel and Openserve in parts of the town; 100 Mbps plans make downloading 100GB cinematic titles feasible in under 2.5 hours. Evetech delivers to Mossel Bay in 3–4 business days from Johannesburg with full courier tracking.
These games invest heavily in audio production. Alan Wake 2 supports Dolby Atmos; Hellblade 2 uses binaural recording designed specifically for headphone playback. A closed-back headset with virtual surround (R1,500–R2,500) transforms the experience compared to standard stereo output. 2.1 desktop speakers (R2,500) are the alternative for a shared or lounge-based setup.
A capable cinematic story game setup — RTX 4070 Super + Ryzen 7 7700X + 32GB DDR5 + 2TB NVMe + 27-inch 1440p HDR monitor + quality headset + peripherals — costs approximately R40,000–R46,000 at current SA retail. A slightly leaner build with a 1440p non-HDR monitor and RTX 4060 Ti can be done for R28,000–R32,000.
With DLSS Quality enabled, Alan Wake 2 delivers 80–100 fps at 1440p High settings on an RTX 4070 Super. With ray tracing set to Ultra, fps drops to 55–70. Frame Generation (available with the RTX 4000 series) raises perceived smoothness further while keeping rendering at native frame rates.

best HDR experience in Alan Wake 2, enable HDR in both Windows Settings and the in-game graphics menu, then use the in-game HDR calibration tool to set peak brightness to match your monitor's DisplayHDR rating. This prevents the washed-out look many players report when HDR is enabled but not calibrated.
