For Diepsloot residents, the most practical student laptop starts at around R8,000 and should pack at least 8 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a battery that lasts 6–8 hours unplugged. Evetech delivers to Diepsloot via courier, typically within 2–4 business days, with no physical store required.
For coursework, video calls, and research, an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor paired with 8 GB RAM handles everything a student needs. Bump to 16 GB if your course involves data sets, design software, or virtual machines. Storage-wise, a 512 GB SSD keeps Windows fast and leaves room for downloaded lecture material without constant file management. Screen size matters too — a 15.6-inch Full HD panel (1920×1080) reduces eye strain during long study sessions without making the machine too heavy to carry.
NSFAS provides a R5,200 laptop allowance, which does not cover even the entry-level R8,000 options at Evetech. Students who receive the allowance should plan to supplement it or check whether their institution offers additional bursary top-ups. At R10,000–R12,000 you gain a noticeably faster processor and a larger SSD, which makes a meaningful difference over a three-year degree.

Engineering, architecture, or data-science students should target 16 GB to avoid slowdowns when running software like MATLAB, Revit, or Python environments.
