A USB-C hub is worthwhile for SolidWorks when a laptop needs an external monitor, Ethernet, mouse, keyboard and storage through too few built-in ports. It does not accelerate models or renders. The host port, display bandwidth and simultaneous device load decide whether the hub is suitable.

Draw the workstation connections

Check the laptop manual for DisplayPort Alt Mode, charging and data speed on the exact socket. List monitor resolution, external drive, Ethernet and input devices. Keep high-bandwidth storage or specialised peripherals on direct ports when sharing creates instability.

Keep models, templates and libraries in approved independent backups. Buy the least complex hub that passes this simultaneous test. If graphics or rebuild performance remains slow after connections are stable, investigate certified hardware, processor, memory and project structure rather than adding ports. A reliable hub organises the desk; it cannot turn an unsupported laptop into a SolidWorks workstation.
