Is an external hard drive actually worth buying for switching from console to PC in SA?

An external hard drive is worthwhile during a console-to-PC move for backups, media and archived installers, but it is not automatically the best place for active PC games. Some titles benefit from an internal SSD, and a drive prepared by a console may need reformatting before a computer can use it.

Decide what the drive will hold

Separate irreplaceable saves and personal files from games that can be downloaded again. Check whether the console supports cloud saves or an official transfer process, since copying a folder may not move licences or progress. Confirm the PC game launcher, file system, USB connection and title-specific storage requirements.
