A racing wheel is worth buying for Unreal Engine only when the developer is building or testing a driving game that needs real steering, pedals and force feedback. It adds no value to general level design, lighting, animation or ordinary editor navigation.
Prototype the control system before choosing hardware
Define steering range, pedal axes, feedback events and supported platforms. Build a simple driving test with keyboard or controller input first, then borrow a wheel to verify device discovery, calibration and packaged-build behaviour. Record which features the project actually reads.
The Unreal Engine scenario has no racing-wheel SKU and price verified by the evidence. Confirm current engine, CPU, memory, GPU, port, driver and warranty needs.
Store input mappings in version control, preserve a keyboard fallback and test dead zones on more than one system. Secure the wheel and pedals so force cannot shift the desk, and route cables away from feet.
Buy after the prototype proves repeated development and test value. General Unreal work should prioritise compile, shader, viewport and storage performance.
Keep a controller fallback so development continues when prototype wheel drivers or calibration fail.
