A smart outdoor access point for home-office work should solve a measured coverage need across a patio, outbuilding or outdoor work area. The title allowance is not a reason to buy enterprise gear. Weather protection, safe cabling, power delivery and roaming behaviour matter more than headline speed.
Survey the route and installation
Measure signal, latency and video-call stability at each intended location using the current network. Mark the cable path, mounting height, lightning exposure and building boundary. Confirm whether the requirement crosses separate electrical supplies or property lines, and obtain qualified installation advice where necessary.
No outdoor access point has a verified SKU or price in the factpacks. The Cudy AP3000 ceiling access point at R899 is an indoor reference and must not be presented as weather-rated. Compare outdoor candidates on ingress rating, operating temperature, radio bands, antenna pattern, PoE requirements, controller needs, mounting, surge guidance, warranty and local support.
Use proper outdoor-rated cable and earthing guidance, never improvise mains power outdoors and keep network administration protected. Preserve the current router configuration before deployment. A directional bridge, wired Ethernet or indoor access point near a window may fit a different layout.
Buy after the site survey proves the coverage gap and a safe installation path exists. Spend only on the area and client capacity actually required.
