A PoE CCTV kit is overkill for most student rooms unless several entrances or a shared property need continuous recording. No verified PoE kit appears in the factpacks. The TP-Link Tapo C212 at R451 gives a confirmed indoor student security camera with Wi-Fi connectivity.
Match coverage to the room
At R451, the Tapo C212 provides indoor pan-and-tilt coverage. It is not a PoE or outdoor model, so use it only within its stated environment.
The Cudy WR1300 router at R327 offers a verified network base for a modest room or digs. Use guest or isolation features where supported.
The Seagate SkyHawk 1TB surveillance hard drive at R1,251 can suit a compatible recorder if a larger wired system is sourced. It has no direct role in the Tapo camera without supported recording hardware.
Respect roommates and residence rules
Ask permission before recording shared spaces, avoid beds and neighbouring property, and follow residence policy. POPIA duties may apply when identifiable people appear in stored footage.
Use strong account credentials and test clip retrieval before leaving valuables unattended.
