### Step 1: Get Your Gear Ready

You don't need a full workshop, just a few essentials:

• Your new M.2 2280 NVMe SSD.
• A small Phillips-head screwdriver (PH0 or PH1 usually works).
• A plastic pry tool or guitar pick (to avoid scratching the case).
• An anti-static wrist strap (optional but highly recommended).
• A USB-C drive with the Windows installation media or a drive cloning tool.

### Step 2: Opening the Casing

First, power down your ROG Ally X completely. Don't just put it to sleep. Once it's off, place it face down on a soft, clean surface.

You'll see six screws on the back. Unscrew all of them. The bottom two screws are captive, meaning they'll loosen but won't come all the way out, which is a nice touch from ASUS.

Now, carefully use your plastic pry tool to work your way around the seam of the device, starting near the triggers. You'll hear some clicks as the plastic clips release. Take your time to avoid any damage.

### Step 3: Swapping the SSD

With the backplate off, you'll see the internals. The SSD is located under a black protective film, usually secured by a single screw.

1. Disconnect the Battery: This is a crucial safety step! Gently unplug the battery connector from the motherboard.
2. Remove the Old SSD: Unscrew the single screw holding the M.2 SSD in place. It will pop up at a slight angle. Gently pull it out of its slot.
3. Install the New SSD: Slide your new, larger SSD into the M.2 slot at the same angle. Press it down gently and secure it with the screw you just removed.
4. Reconnect the Battery: Plug the battery connector back in firmly.
