Steam Deck LCD vs OLED: Which to Buy in Atteridgeville

The LCD Steam Deck has a 7-inch IPS screen at 800p 60 Hz and a 40 Wh battery giving roughly 2–4 hours of gaming. The OLED model upgrades to an OLED panel with deeper contrast, 90 Hz refresh, and a 50 Wh battery for 3–5 hours of gaming — a meaningful improvement for portable use. The 512 GB OLED starts around R14,999–R16,999. For Atteridgeville buyers focused on value, the 256 GB LCD is the better starting point; you can add a microSD for extra storage.

Performance: What FPS to Expect

At 800p Low-Medium settings: CS2 averages 45–60 fps, GTA V hits 35–50 fps, Hades and Hollow Knight run at a steady 60 fps, and Baldur's Gate 3 Medium achieves 35–45 fps. The Steam Deck uses AMD RDNA 2 graphics with 8 CUs — competent for indie and AA titles. Very demanding AAA games at High settings typically drop below 30 fps; use Proton compatibility and the in-game fps limiter for stable 30 fps performance.
