1000W PSU Planning for RTX 5090 Builds in SA
1000W for RTX 5090 needs a full-build check, not a simple yes. Review GPU guidance, CPU draw, transient load, connectors, PSU quality, and upgrade plans before deciding.
Read moreLocal dimming on a Mini-LED monitor trades contrast for halo blooming around bright objects on dark backgrounds, and the balance depends on zone count. Dropping dimming from high to medium cuts blooming with little loss, and Evetech lists zone counts per Mini-LED model.
Mini-LED local dimming groups the backlight into zones that brighten and darken behind the LCD image. It can lift HDR contrast, but a bright object on black can light a larger zone and create a halo. Zone count helps, while the control algorithm and panel contrast matter just as much.
Use local dimming for HDR films and games. Start with the middle setting, then compare star fields, subtitles and dark game menus against High. Choose the mode that preserves shadow detail without making halos or brightness pumping more distracting. For colour work on a uniform SDR desktop, test it off.
Browse Evetech's monitor catalogue and compare popular display models. Look for measured zone behaviour and real-scene contrast; a raw zone number cannot describe the algorithm.
Each dimming zone covers many LCD pixels. When a white cursor crosses a black background, the zone behind it must brighten and some light leaks through neighbouring dark pixels. A VA panel's stronger native contrast can mask more of that leak than an IPS panel, though viewing angle and response differ.
More, smaller zones can follow objects with finer control. Fast algorithms, sensible transitions and good panel uniformity decide whether those zones look natural in motion.
High can deliver brighter highlights and deeper average blacks, yet it may crush stars or pump brightness as subtitles appear. Medium may reduce the contrast swing. Low can keep detail stable while losing HDR impact.
Watch from your normal position because blooming changes off-axis. Keep HDR calibration and picture mode fixed while switching local dimming. A camera can exaggerate halos through exposure, so trust the in-person comparison.
Use a dark game with objects just above black. An aggressive algorithm can switch zones off and hide those details, which looks dramatic in a paused comparison but removes information during play. Raise the game's black-level control only through its calibration pattern; lifting it by eye can wash out the whole image.
Check the monitor's black equaliser, contrast enhancer and dynamic-contrast settings. Leave them neutral while judging local dimming. Several brightness algorithms operating together can create pumping that the dimming mode did not cause alone.
HDR metadata and tone mapping give the monitor a reason to drive small highlights hard. SDR desktop content has a lower reference range and may not benefit from the same High setting. Save a calm SDR profile and a stronger HDR profile if the monitor stores them per signal.
For creative work, local dimming can make a uniform grey patch change with nearby content. Disable it for SDR colour measurement unless the workflow and calibration target include that exact mode.
Firmware can alter zone timing and black-level behaviour. Install only a relevant supported update, then repeat the same scenes before deciding it improved the display.
It helps spatial control, but the algorithm, panel contrast and scene still determine the result.
Test it. Uniform desktop work may look steadier with it off, while SDR games can benefit on some monitors.
Bright text can activate several zones and force the algorithm to rebalance nearby dark areas.
Compare Medium and High local dimming in dark moving scenes, subtitles and menus, then keep the mode whose contrast remains stable from your seat.
