A surge-protected power strip is worth using with a photogrammetry workstation as one layer of electrical protection. Reconstruction can keep the CPU, GPU and storage active for hours, making an interrupted session costly. The strip may reduce risk from some voltage spikes, but it does not provide runtime, save a project or replace backups. Its rating and condition matter more than the number of sockets.

Protect equipment and project data separately

No surge-strip price is validated in the available factpacks. Compare current options by joule rating, overload protection, status indicator, socket spacing, cord length, local plug compliance, replacement guidance and warranty. Add the workstation, displays and storage within the rated load, and never chain strips. Repeated electrical problems or damaged outlets need a qualified electrician.

A UPS serves a different purpose by giving the workstation time to save and shut down. Measure actual power use during alignment and dense reconstruction, then size compatible equipment from load and desired runtime. High-draw printers or unrelated appliances should not share the protected workstation circuit without proper assessment.

Enable automatic saves, preserve original image sets and copy project milestones to another location. Test a restore before a large survey job. Buy a well-specified strip for basic surge defence, but plan runtime and data recovery separately. Photogrammetry resilience depends on the full power and backup chain rather than one accessory.
