A competitive gamer should choose a clean Windows install only when persistent driver conflicts, corruption or unwanted software cannot be resolved safely. Reinstalling before every event adds risk and does not automatically improve frame rate. Protect game settings, account recovery and required peripherals before erasing the system.
Preserve the competition environment
List launchers, anti-cheat tools, mouse software, audio drivers, monitor profiles and communication apps. Back up local saves, key bindings and tournament documents where the game permits it. Confirm multi-factor authentication recovery. Use official Windows media and vendor driver sources rather than performance-modified images of unknown origin.
Disconnect non-essential drives before selecting the installation target. After setup, apply updates, chipset and graphics drivers, then install the main game before optional utilities. Test input polling, audio, network, sleep recovery and the exact display refresh rate. Avoid untested registry tweaks or service removals that can break anti-cheat or security.
Perform the rebuild well before competition, not the night before. Run several full practice sessions and record temperatures, frame pacing and network stability. If storage health, overheating or insufficient hardware caused the problem, Windows will not cure it. Keep the old verified backup until the new environment proves stable. A clean install is a careful recovery tool, not a routine esports performance upgrade.
