A tablet is worth it for a small-business POS when the approved sales app supports it, staff need mobility and the device can connect securely to printers, scanners and payment equipment. It is unsuitable when desktop software or wired peripherals are mandatory.

Complete a full sale and recovery test at the counter

Open stock, process a test transaction, issue a receipt, handle a return and work through a connection failure. Check screen readability, battery, stand stability, charging, peripheral pairing and whether staff can recover without administrator access.

A small-business POS tablet and its current price are not established by the factpacks. The ASUS ExpertBook P1503 at R9,858 is a verified laptop reference, not a tablet or POS compatibility guarantee. The Minisforum NAB6 Lite at R4,150 is a separate compact-PC reference. Confirm live retail software, security, peripherals, repair, battery and warranty requirements.

Use named staff accounts, restrict installations and keep customer details out of notifications. Secure the tablet against theft, maintain tested data backups and document an offline transaction procedure. A fixed computer may be safer when the counter never moves.

Buy only after the complete sale test passes. Mobility should improve service without weakening recovery or access control.

Mobile sales can benefit from a rugged stand and battery plan, while a fixed counter needs secure mounting and dependable wired peripherals.
