RTX Spark is not only a laptop chip. NVIDIA lists a desktop version of N1X, and five brands have now shown RTX Spark desktops: compact boxes from ASUS, Dell, Microsoft, HP and Acer. None is on sale in South Africa yet, and most have no firm date even overseas. Here is what each one is, what is confirmed, and how they differ from the laptops.
Quick Answer
No RTX Spark desktop is listed in South Africa as of 22 October 2026. The only one with a confirmed price is Microsoft's Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, at $5,999 on Microsoft.com in the US, shipping in November. ASUS says its ProArt GR1X arrives later this year, Dell's Creator Edition Desktop is "coming soon", and Acer and HP have shown designs without dates. RTX Spark laptops are available locally from R84,999.
🖥️ The desktop chip
NVIDIA's RTX Spark page lists the desktop N1X with the full 6,144-core Blackwell RTX GPU and 20-core Grace CPU at a 140W power level, against 45-80W in laptops. More power and room for bigger coolers is the point of a desktop: the same chip can hold higher performance for longer, without a battery to protect.

📦 The five desktops so far
- ASUS ProArt GR1X: a 150 x 150 x 51mm box with dual-fan cooling, two M.2 SSD slots, 10GbE networking, Wi-Fi 7 and support for up to four 4K displays. ASUS says it arrives later this year, mainly in 64GB and 128GB configurations, through select premium retailers.
- Dell Creator Edition Desktop: Dell quotes up to 1 petaflop of FP4 computing and support for AI models of up to 200 billion parameters. Dell's only date is "coming soon".
- Microsoft Surface RTX Spark Dev Box: up to 1 petaflop and 128GB of unified memory, on pre-order for $5,999 exclusively on Microsoft.com in the US, shipping this November.
- HP OmniDesk: HP describes an always-on desktop built to keep long-running AI agents working when you step away. HP has not published specifications or pricing in the sources we checked.
- Acer SFF RTX Spark: a compact desktop design with up to 1 petaflop and 128GB, shown at IFA. Acer says devices will be announced at a future date.
NVIDIA's May launch also named GIGABYTE among the brands with models to follow.
🧭 Desktop, laptop or wait?
A desktop makes sense if the machine will live under a monitor running long AI jobs, renders or agents, and you never need to carry it. A laptop makes sense if you move between home, office and clients. Today only the laptops are a real option locally, with two models listed from R84,999. ASUS first showed the GR1X next to its RTX Spark laptops, as described in our ProArt RTX Spark launch coverage.
For a compact machine now, compare the mini PC range. For heavier professional work, the workstation PCs use conventional graphics cards with dedicated VRAM.
